My Old House-Living Room

Those of you that have followed my blog for very long know that I have an old 1920’s house that I bought in March of 2022.  I have been working on it to get it fixed up, a little at a time ever since.

Above are photos of my living room before and after a paint job.  On the left, when the walls, floors and rug were all dark colors, I felt like I was living in a cave!  It was depressing.  In the photo on the right, you can see what a difference just changing the paint color made in this room.

Now, I think the room has a much lighter and brighter feel.  I’m very happy with how it turned out.

Rocket likes it too! 🙂

With the photo on the left, I wanted to show the dramatic difference in the color change.  The photo on the right is another view of my living room. I will eventually replace the ceiling fan, once I find something that has a vintage look & feel to it.

This room was one that I didn’t have to do a lot of repairs to before painting it.  But JUST painting is a challenge, with almost 12′ ceilings!

If you would like to see more of my before and after results you can find those HERE on my bedroom, and HERE on my bathroom.

Next, the kitchen! 🙂 Stay tuned!

  1. It looks great, Penny! I love light colors in rooms, along with a lot of sunlight. I would have been like you, feeling closed in with the darker shades. Great job on your bedroom and bathroom, too.

We’ve remodeled every room in our house over the years. It’s time to give a few of them a fresh coat of paint again!

  2. Wow … what a difference all your hard work has made. I haven’t seen your house before as we haven’t known each other for all that long. There’s such a drastic change and vast improvement in the colour schemes, and doesn’t it make a difference!? You must be thrilled to bits, and rightly so. Rocket looks adorable, and I love the picture on the wall of all the little birds in a row. Well done you, Penny. I hope you enjoy your newly decorated home. Xx 💕
