Bathroom, A Low Cost Remodel

Those of you that follow my blog know that I purchased an older home (1925) in March.  Since then, I have been Working on it, getting it cleaned up, up to date and remodeling.  This bathroom is my latest project.

The photo on the right, above, shows you what I started with.  The walls were a dirty light brown color.  The floor was covered with cheap linoleum.  The vanity was small, cheap and falling apart. The sink and faucet both leaked.

The first thing I did was to pull out the vanity and sink then pull up the linoleum.  I was left with the plywood sub-floor.

I took some Liquid Nails and wood filler and glued and patched the plywood floor.  Then I sanded the areas that I patched smooth.  I then primed and painted the floor with Kilz Gray, 3 or 4 coats, I think.  I don’t remember for sure.

I patched holes in the walls and painted the entire room white, including the ceiling.  After such a dingy looking room, I was looking for clean, light and bright.

I put the new vanity and medicine cabinet in.  I also replaced the shower curtain rod with a curved one, giving me more room in the shower.

The vanity and medicine cabinet were purchased on sale.  I waited until I found a good deal on them.

My dear brother, Bruce, helped me muscle the old vanity out and put the new vanity and sink into place.  I am grateful to him for his expertise, skill and patience with my tons of questions.

With the exception of swapping out the vanities, I did the rest of the work here myself.  With a couple of YouTube videos and my brother’s advice, I’m proud of how the room turned out. I estimate that the cost of redoing this room was less than $500.00 total.

I still have a couple of little things to do.  The light above the sink is not centered since I had to replace the vanity.  So I will eventually get another light to put in its place.  I also need to put some quarter round along the base of the floor where it meets the walls.  All in due time.

My next project, my living room!!

Thank you for joining me on this journey. Penny ❤
