Surface

Just beneath the surface
I’d see a glimpse
of it
of you

You’re good
at keeping it
from most

But with me
you let it slide

Most saw
the boy next door

Those sparkling eyes
fooled them

You were just
what they thought
you were

They saw the surface
ripple

I saw
the raging
storm

Just beneath the surface.
