Guarded

Guarded

Wrapped in chains

created by bouts

of betrayal

Walls built high

and higher still

Overlooking a valley

of deluded dreams

and forgotten covenant

Sweat

Beads along brow

Never ending battle

Fear born of deception

Exhaustion from defense

Defense from pain

Pain from defense

  1. Penny, this is fantastic! From the picture, to the poem, to the your question at the end, this is a spot-on post that really draws in and makes the reader question their own “thick skin and guarded heart”
