Kitchen-Before & After

I promised Before and After pictures of my kitchen painting project.  So here they are.  If you can’t tell, the dark blue was the Before color and the sunny yellow is the After color.  I just love it.  The whole process was much harder that I realized it was going to be just because of a few unforeseen incidents.  Also there is the fact that this 63 year old body is not used to spending a lot of time on a ladder.  I forgot how much hard work painting is!!

There are still a few things that are needed to complete the look.  I have blinds and a new ceiling light fixture on order.  So those will be put into place.  Eventually I will change the look of the counter tops and backsplash.  But that will be another time.

I’ve always thought that a kitchen should be light and bright.  This one fits the bill.  Instead of hating the look of my kitchen, now I love it!  It was hard work, but well work the effort.

Have you done a big DIY project that you’re proud of?  Tell me about it!

Thank you for joining me on this journey.  Penny ❤

Balance of Life

“Sadness gives depth. Happiness gives height. Sadness gives roots. Happiness gives branches. Happiness is like a tree going into the sky, and sadness is like the roots going down into the womb of the earth. Both are needed, and the higher a tree goes, the deeper it goes, simultaneously. The bigger the tree, the bigger will be its roots. In fact, it is always in proportion. That’s its balance.”

Fence Me In, Yes!

The Lovely picture above is my view from the deck in my back yard. I love my little house, but there were issues with the back yard.  There was NO privacy. A neighbor on one side of me has junk galore in his back yard and mows his yard 2 or 3 times a year, whether it needs it or not. 🙂  Then I have very nice neighbors behind me that just put in a swimming pool.  They have teen aged kids.  I know this will mean a lot of activity in their yard, which is completely exposed to my yard.  It was time.

Below are a couple of before and after pictures. I’m sorry the quality is so bad in the before shots.  But you can see that the fence has made a HUGE difference! There was a terrible, falling down, ancient, chain link fence in place.  The new fence just went right in front of the old one.

For Christmas, my brother and sister in law gifted me this awesome hammock swing!!  See below.  I got this hung up on New Year’s Day.  Yes, me.  By myself. 🙂

I had been wanting a swing just like this for some time and I guess Santa told my brother that I wanted it.  I didn’t.  But this is what he got me for Christmas!

Here’s another shot of my swing on my back deck.  The swing is where I was sitting in my first picture of this post.  My back yard was in terrible shape when I moved in.  I’ve pulled hundreds of weeds.  ALL the grass was dead.  So it’s come a long way from where I started.  I need to stain the fence and the deck. So there is still a lot of work to do.  But my back yard is becoming my little sanctuary. I love spending time out here with my little dog, drinking coffee, writing, etc.  One the weekends, I take my bowl of cereal and my cup of coffee out there and enjoy my little slice of heaven.

My little homestead still needs lots of work. This last summer I had the attic insulated, I put a new floor in the bathroom, now a new fence.  Next?  Maybe new gutters.  I’m not sure.  Of course there is still TONS of painting that I need to do inside the house.  Slow but sure, I’m making this little gem shine! 🙂

Enjoy the Ride

“Anyone who imagines that bliss is normal is going to waste a lot of time running around shouting that he’s been robbed.  The fact is that most putts don’t drop, most beef is tough, most children grow up to be just people, most successful marriages require a high degree of mutual toleration, most jobs are more often dull than otherwise.  Life is like an old time rail journey… delays, sidetracks, smoke, dust, cinders and jolts, interspersed only occasionally by beautiful vistas and thrilling bursts of speed.  The trick is to thank the Lord for letting you have the ride.”

Oh, Christmas Tree

I’ve had a hard time getting into the Christmas spirit this year.  Despite that, I think my Christmas tree turned out pretty this year.  I’ve been collecting angels for about a year now.  This isn’t all angels, but by next year I should have enough for an “angel tree”.  🙂

Merry Christmas all! ❤  Penny

#Weeklysmile – Beautiful Day

My dear friend Trent does a Weekly Smile post.  Here’s one for him (and me).

Today was an almost perfect early spring day.  There was almost no wind, which is something that I am SO thankful for!  The wind blows too much here.  The sun shone all day and the sky was a beautiful blue!

I took the day off.  I didn’t do much today other than enjoy the day.  I spent a lot of time outside with my little dog Rocket, sitting on the deck.  The boy loves to chase the birds and squirrels and he loves to sunbathe.  He competes with the neighbor’s dogs in barking for no reason at all contests sometimes.  He’s normally very quiet (unusual for his breed) so when he wants to cut loose, I usually let him.  He has a good time.

I put all of my flower pots out on the lawn to make sure everyone got some sun.  I’ve carefully covered my flowers at night if the temps dropped too low and I’ve been rewarded with some beautiful blooms!

I washed out the bird bath and refilled it.  I’m still waiting for the little birds to discover it and start enjoying it.  But then again, I guess I would be shy about bathing in a stranger’s yard. 🙂

I’m so thankful for this beautiful day and beautiful weather.  Today made me smile.  There are many places where people are not as fortunate, I know that and I’m thankful.  ❤

Come next week — sudiecrouch

Please enjoy this positive, uplifting message from my new friend over at sudicrouch.  ❤

There is something peaceful about reflecting on the year as we ready ourselves for the next one. It’s a time, at least for me, to look back over what the last 12 months had brought into my life. The moments of joy and happiness. The obstacles that had been dealt with, whether I successfully bested […]
