Happy Spring!

I LOVE spring!  To feel the warmth of the sun after winter’s chill is healing to my soul.  I love the smell of newly tilled earth and freshly cut lawns.  My BFF gave me a rosebush for my birthday (photo above) and I love the multi colored blooms!

I started some snapdragon seeds indoors this winter and have been rewarded with some amazing colors! See photos below.

Texas’ state flower is the Bluebonnet.  The flowers grow wild along the roads and in fields in the spring.  Below, you will see bluebonnets in bloom along a country road and blue and RED bonnets growing in my brother’s yard!

Here’s a full view of my pretty little rosebush. (below) Looking at the one bloom on it, you would think that the blooms would be yellow.  But they are a multicolored bloom changing from yellow to yellow with pink tips.  I also have a couple of new buds on the bush that look to be mostly pink.  It’s going to be fun to see how they change as they open!  🙂

One more photo.  (I can’t help myself)  Below is a photo of a petunia plant that I saved when I first bought my house a year ago.  When I first saw it, it had one little bloom on it.  I was having a lot of work done on the yard at the time and I couldn’t let the little thing die.  So I dug it up and put it in a pot.  It lasted through the winter and is now blooming like crazy!

If you are still in the grips of winter, I’m sorry.  Spring IS coming.  Hopefully the photos that I’ve shared here brought you a warm smile!

Thank you for joining me on this journey. ❤

Elusive

Just a hint

A small inkling

Like a whisper
not quite heard

Or a soft scent
on the breeze

I can’t hold
or touch it

A shadow
caught in the path
of the sun

I felt it
I tasted it

I’m sure

Elusive and
wild
as trust

As fleeting
as time

Love

The Weight of Yesterday

View the world
without the weight
of yesterday

a feat most
difficult

It clouds the vision
and dulls the heart

We struggle to
shrug off the past
to clear our vision

The weight of the world
is burdensome enough

without dragging the past
with us
through life

I Feel quite honored that International Women’s Day happens to fall on my Birthday!  Today, honor a lovely woman in your life!

Summers of My Youth

Sometimes I long for the summers of my youth.  When summer days were endless and Grandpa was my hero, the biggest, strongest man I knew.  I remember days spent sitting on a summer sidewalk with a hammer and a bag of pecans.  Barefoot was the dress code.  Bologna sandwiches and playing in the spinkler on the lawn.  Going to the drive-in with the station wagon loaded with all the neighbor kids.  Brown paper bags of popcorn and falling asleep before the 2nd movie came on.  Being tucked into bed, with a tender kiss on my cheek.   I recall laying on my back on a hillside watching the puffy white clouds and savouring the tiny drops of nectar from the honeysuckle blossoms.  Fireflies in a jar.

Don’t get me wrong, life was hard, damned hard, at times.  But I thank God and my Mom, for beautiful memories like these.

Do you have a favorite Summer Memory?

Thank you for joining me on this journey. Penny

Getting My House In Order

I said in my last post that I need time to get my house in order. The photos below will give you just a hint of what I’m dealing with. I’m living in a construction zone!!

I am just beyond busy right now.  I’ve got several projects going at the same time.  My life is chaos, but extremely Happy!  Once things slow down for me, you will see me back here regularly again.  Until then, I’ll post sneak peeks of what’s happening in my world.

Thank you for joining me on this journey,

Spring’s Celebration

*Spring is my favorite time of year.  So in honor of the first day of spring…

The first blush of spring.  When the flowers begin their peek out of the soil seeking the sun.  A time of New Beginnings.   A time of Rebirth and Fresh Starts.

What a joy to behold!

The world shucks off its grey shroud of winter and dons a bright floral frock for all to see.  The trees rejoice as they come back from the death-grip of winter.  They show off their gentle blossoms that rain down in the gentle spring breezes.  Glorious fragrances fill the air.

Mother nature is a joyful noise as the newborn explore and scurry, worrying their mothers as they do so.

The rivers and streams, their waters set loose from winter’s icy grip are now running with abandon.  They dance and play as they tumble over rocks and laugh their way down water falls.

The entire Earth is in celebration as it reawakens from it’s winter’s sleep.

Spring’s Celebration!

Happy Spring, All!  I know this is a repeat. I hope you don’t mind. It’s a favorite. Enjoy!  ❤

Kitchen-Before & After

I promised Before and After pictures of my kitchen painting project.  So here they are.  If you can’t tell, the dark blue was the Before color and the sunny yellow is the After color.  I just love it.  The whole process was much harder that I realized it was going to be just because of a few unforeseen incidents.  Also there is the fact that this 63 year old body is not used to spending a lot of time on a ladder.  I forgot how much hard work painting is!!

There are still a few things that are needed to complete the look.  I have blinds and a new ceiling light fixture on order.  So those will be put into place.  Eventually I will change the look of the counter tops and backsplash.  But that will be another time.

I’ve always thought that a kitchen should be light and bright.  This one fits the bill.  Instead of hating the look of my kitchen, now I love it!  It was hard work, but well work the effort.

Have you done a big DIY project that you’re proud of?  Tell me about it!

Thank you for joining me on this journey.  Penny ❤

Balance of Life

“Sadness gives depth. Happiness gives height. Sadness gives roots. Happiness gives branches. Happiness is like a tree going into the sky, and sadness is like the roots going down into the womb of the earth. Both are needed, and the higher a tree goes, the deeper it goes, simultaneously. The bigger the tree, the bigger will be its roots. In fact, it is always in proportion. That’s its balance.”
