#NaPoWriMo – Day 9-A Few Simple Lines

It’s nothing but

a few simple lines

Words you’ve

strung together

They seem innocent

without depth

to the non-discerning

eye

But to me

you have painted

a tapestry

a masterpiece

for the senses

With your words

I experience

your world

The textures and

colors come to life

The words

are transformed

into your voice

your whispers

and yes

even your touch

With a few simple lines

“You like me! You really, really like me!”

I don’t think that sweet Sally Fields ever lived down those words.

Thank You, to everyone that took time to visit my blog and like something that you saw here. I appreciate it so much!

Years ago when I first started this blog, I had no idea how big of a part in my life this blog would play. It’s become not only a place to express myself, but also a place I can come to and always be welcomed. It’s a place where I can check in with friends that I’ve made here. It’s also a place where I can discover new talent and make new friends.

My time here has been rewarding in ways that I never imagined. Thank you for being here for me and for joining me on this journey! Penny

Those That Shaped Me

I recently saw the movie “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood”.  A lovely movie about Mr. Rogers and a magazine writer.  (if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it) In that movie was a scene where Tom Hanks, who plays Mr. Rogers, is reading a list of names from a book.  At the end of the list he says “thank you, God.”  The movie is wonderful, but this scene really stuck with me.

The culmination of our experiences is what makes us, us.  We’ve all heard this.  I’ve heard it so many times that it didn’t make an impact on me any more.  That is, until I started thinking back to all of the people that shaped me into who I am today.

There are those in the past that have done us wrong, hurt us.  We all have these people in our lives.  It hurt and at the time it was an awful thing to go through.  But that experience, like all the others in our lives, have shaped us to be who we are.

So the next time you look back at the people in your life, those that hurt you, those that did you wrong, thank them.  Thank them and thank God for bringing those people into your life.  Because these people had a hand in shaping you into the incredible human being that you are today.

Just a partial list:

Denise, David D., Bruce, Roy, Mom, Lloyd, Bert, Mrs. Carpenter, Mr. Bruin, Carlos, Teresa, Diana, Nancy, Bobby, Norman, David C., John, Johnny, Cara, Gill, Heather, Chad, Sandy, Dave M., Robert, Ron, Bruce W., Frenchy, Diane, Ruby, Geno, Monk, Barbie, Ron, Bret, Tracy, Chuck, Audrey, Janette, Carlos, Bobby…

Thank you, God, for bringing these people into my life.

Thank Goodness for Pushy People/Good Friends

You know those friends that seem to get just a little pushy with your business on occasion? Well, I’ve got one of those.  He’s pushy.  Not so much like a direct push-you-down-the-stairs kind of way.  But a sort of nagging, poke-you-in-the-ribs, gently, nudging, kind of way.

I have been feeling less than inspired these days and this friend took notice.  We have become pen pals, of a sort.  Those of you too young to know what a Pen Pal is, look it up!  It’s fun!  I’ve found that he’s a terrific listener.  🙂  With everything that is going on in this world, it’s important that we stay connected in some way, even if it cannot be in a physical way.  Thank heavens for the internet, right?  So I now have this new “connection” with someone that I haven’t had before.  It’s been nice!

In a recent correspondence, my friend said to me,  “Just Write!  Don’t worry about what you do – Just Write and you can go back later and look at it again.
Not everything is a hit – Baseball players are stars with a batting average of .300 – only 3 out of 10 at bats with a hit.”

That is a terrific way to look at it, isn’t it?

I’m starting to get that itch again to write and have written a few things here and there.  That “spark” has begun again!

So, Thank You, Dear Friend, for nudging me, poking at me and most of all for being there for me.  ❤

My First Elfchen

My Dear Friend, Chuck, over at The Reluctant Poet has been nudging me about my writing.  I’ve been in a bit of a writing slump lately and Chuck suggested that I try the poetry form of Elfchen poems.  Elfchen poems consist of just 11 words constructed in a particular format.  Below is my first attempt.  I hope you like it.
Love
from you
not just today
but for all time
cherished.

Say A Little Prayer

I don’t usually ask anything of my followers.  Your visits, comments and continued support has been more than enough for me for several years now.  But today, I am asking you to pray for my dear friend Denise.  She has been diagnosed with Lung Cancer.  I’ve done a few posts about Denise over the years.  Suffice it to say that she is someone very dear to me.  She’s the sister that I never had.  We have had a close relationship for more than 40 years.

I don’t care what your religious stand is, but I feel that whether you believe or not, Prayer is a powerful thing.  When you pray, you send out your positivity (if that’s a word) into the universe.  That positiveness has an effect.  A simple way to look at it is this.  If you are around a angry or negative person, that “feeling” tends to rub off on you, right?  The same goes for the positive side of things.  If you are getting positive support and encouragement, you feel that and it helps.

I will be traveling to Oregon soon to be with my bff, but I’m not sure when.  I’ll keep you posted.  Meanwhile, please say a little prayer of healing for Denise.

Thank you, my Dear WordPress Family!  And thank you for joining me on this journey.  ❤ Penny

Friday Favorites-The Mad Chatter

Welcome to another Friday Favorite! Each week, I’ll bring you information about a blog/blogger that I follow and why they are a favorite of mine.  This week, I’d like to introduce you to The Mad Chatter. Be sure to visit her blog and it may become a favorite of yours too!

I think that The Mad Chatter (Jessica) is a fairly new friend/blogger of mine.  I’m not sure exactly how or why we connected, but I’m sure glad that we did.  Jessica isn’t afraid to poke a little fun at herself, while getting her points across.  She’s an advocate for Mental Health issues and ending those stigmas.  These are just a few reasons why I enjoy her blog.

Like mine, The Mad Chatter’s blog is quite varied.  She writes what she wants to write and posts what she wants to post.  As it Should Be!! I love HER POSTGray Matter” where she talks about the variety of her posts.

The Mad Chatter has a page devoted to Mental Health. Go HERE to see it. I guarantee, there is food for thought on this page.

The Mad Chatter has a page on HUMOR, one on POETRY and a variety of other topics.  I love THIS POST that she did about the intelligence of an octopus.

All in all, Jessica’s blog, The Mad Chatter has a lot to offer!  Be sure to spend some time exploring this entertaining, and enlightening blog!  You’ll discover a new friend and a favorite too!

Friday Favorites-80s Metalman’s Blog

Welcome to another addition of my Friday Favorites!  Each week I will share with you information about a blog/blogger that I follow and why they are a favorite of mine.  Please be sure to check out their site because they may become a favorite of yours too!  Today’s favorite is Mike’s 80s Metalman’s Blog.

Although I’m a big fan of Heavy Metal Music, Mike will put enough of a spin on things to make it interesting for me. Mike and I connected on WordPress quite some time ago and he’s always been willing to participate and give input when asked.  I also find Mike to be encouraging and kind.

THIS is a page about Great Movie soundtracks in 1984.  This was fun for me, looking over Mike’s comments about movies like Ghost Busters, StarMan and Karate Kid.  HERE is a post Mike did about the soundtrack to the movie Footloose.  A favorite of mine.

On THIS PAGE Mike shows us his humorous side.  You’ll find fun videos from Christmas songs to Weird Al and more.  Be sure to take a few minutes exploring this page.  It’s sure to tickle your funny bone! 🙂

Mike will often write about the passing of a beloved band.  Some of these can be seen HERE.

THIS is a post that Mike did about a rock legend and a favorite of mine, Pat Benatar, the Queen of Rock at that time.

One thing that Mike the 80s Metalman will do occasionally, is to show touching or romantic lyrics in Metal Music.  This, of course, appeals to my poetic side.  I’m pleasantly surprised at the romance and tenderness expressed in some of these lyrics.

Mike’s knowledge in this genre of music is amazing.  He knows his stuff.  Be sure to spend some on the 80s Metalman’s Blog exploring.  I think you’ll like what you see there and he may become a favorite of yours too!

Friendship

“Friendship marks a life even more deeply than love. Love risks degenerating into obsession, friendship is never anything but sharing.”
