Playing Favorites Friday “Trent’s World (The Blog)”

Happy Friday all!  We all have our favorites, right?  Favorite food, favorite music, etc.  I have favorite blogs.  Many, many favorites.  🙂  I decided that I need to be sharing these favorites with you.  After all, they ARE wonderful and that’s why they are favorites, right?

So today is my first of many (I hope) favorites, that I wish to share with you.  In no particular order, I’ll tell you a little about them and why they are my favorite blogs to visit.  Please be sure to drop by and give their blog a look-see.  You won’t be sorry and they might just become a favorite of yours too!

My very first favorite is Trent’s World (The Blog)

I start with Trent’s blog because he is one of the very first bloggers I connected with on WordPress.  He’s always been kind, inspiring and helpful to me from day one.  His blog is a treasure trove of short stories, not-so-short stories, prose, photography, art and various other things.

Trent does a Weekly Smile piece that is always fun to check out and participate in.  Trent is a very active blogger and participates in a number of prompts and challenges here.

Trent now has 4 books in print and 5th one coming soon!  He’s a prolific writer who weaves colorful and imaginative stories.  You can check out his book titles and descriptions HERE.

So be sure to check out Trent’s blog.  It’s worth your time and it may just become a favorite of yours too!

I Write For Me

This blog has gone through a lot of transformations over the last 5+ years. Although I’m not setting any records, my following has continued to grow.  I am grateful and still a bit in awe that anyone would want to hear what I have to say!

I’ve grown personally, and as a writer over these years.  Along the way, I’ve had some real stinkers for posts. I look back on some of these and cringe.  But you, my fellow bloggers and others, have hung in there through the good and the bad.  You’ve allowed me to subject you to whatever ramblings I find important at the time.  🙂   For this, I am grateful.

I’ve made some wonderful friends and connections on WordPress.  People that hopefully, will be life-long friends.  This community has given me a connection to the world that I never knew I was lacking.  My life is richer and better for it.

We all write for different reasons.  The above are some of those reasons.   There are other reasons as well.  I won’t bore you with the laundry list of reasons I write (expression, creativity, etc. etc.).  The real reason I write is for ME.

In many instances, my writing has been healing.  We all have struggles and being able to express myself as I go through those struggles has kept me coming back again and again.

As I approach my 2,000th follower (blows my mind), I want to thank all of you who have endured the good and the cringe-worthy posts of mine.  With your kindness and grace have I been able to grow, learn, and express myself here.

I don’t know what the future hold for Penny Wilson Writes, but I do hope you will continue to join me on this journey.

❤ Penny

1500 Followers, Wow!

I’ve been blogging on WordPress for about 5 years now.  Way back then, I never dreamed that 1500 souls would give a lick about anything that I wrote.

My writing has evolved and changed over the years.  You all have seen some really, really crappy stuff posted here and you continue to show me your love and support.  My blog is very random.  I post whatever I happen to feel like posting that day.  A fellow blogger that I follow does the same thing and he was told that his blog was “messy” because of this.  Well, if that’s the case, then I’m messy too.  🙂

The WordPress community has been a Huge blessing in my life!  This isn’t just a blog.  It’s part of my life; an important one.

WordPress is a place that I come to and can be uplifted by those that not only follow me but also by the incredibly inspiring words that are written here.  I find myself sharing in your joys and your sorrows.  I’m not here just for the flash fiction or the poetry.  Although, I love that stuff too.

So to all of you that Make My Day, almost Every Single Day, THANK YOU!!  I look forward to seeing what the future holds for us during the next 5 years!

Followers and Fakes

I just went through my list of followers and deleted a bunch of them.  GASP!!  Why?  Because they’re fake!!

Has anyone else noticed this?  I did a post sometime back about how bad Internet dating is.  Oh boy, you should see some of the racey followers I got from that!  I got followers from exotic girl dating sites, all different countries and I got followers from Hookup sites.

My recent posts about me buying my house has resulted in followers from several Real Estate companies.

These, of course, are spam.

It’s disheartening!

Do you remember when you reached your first significant benchmark of followers? Maybe it was 100 or 500.  For me, the first time I got really blown away was when I reached 300 followers!  I was thrilled!!

I still feel that thrill when I see the numbers grow.  But now, I question it.

It would be nice to have an accurate number.

*What’s your take on this?  You get spammy followers?  Is your follower count accurate?

1000 Followers!

I clearly remember the day that I reached 100 followers on WordPress and how excited I was.  Having over 1000 followers now blows my mind!

Although I’ve been blogging for about 6 years, I didn’t take it to heart until May of 2017.  At that time I had around 300 followers.  Certainly nothing to write home about.

In May, I decided that I needed to write more so I challenged myself to do a post a day for the month.   From that jumping off point, my blog following has grown at a very steady (and surprising) rate.  I no longer post every day.  I would say it’s a few times a week.

I have found that my writing has become a release for me.  Writing is therapeutic and a Huge, positive, and important part of my life.

Those of you that are looking to grow your following, I have Just One major piece of advice.  Be nice.  It’s that simple.  Visit other blogs, comment, follow, share and answer comments.

In the coming months, I plan on making some changes to my blog.  I think the changes will make accessing specific topics easier.  I hope you will all come along with me for the ride.  I’ll keep you posted.

I want to thank Every Single One of you for following me.  You’ve made something that I love into something Fantastic in my life!  THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

To Follow or Not to Follow

There are a ton of talented people on WordPress.  I cannot possibly follow all of them.  I have a hard enough time keeping up with my Reader feed as it is!  I have my favorite bloggers that I actively seek out and then I try to get to as many of the others as I can.

An Open Letter To My Fellow Bloggers

Boy, this sure sounds like a LOT of my fellow blogging friends! This post has probably made poor Biff even more popular and busier than ever!  Thanks for the great post Biff!

Biff Sock Pow

Panicking

Hey!  You know what’s a full time job?

Reading other peoples’ blogs.

Man!  I try to keep up.  I really do.  The more people I follow, the more things pop up on my “Followed Sites” stream.  And I try to read them.  I try to be a good follower.  I am liberal (though sincere) with my likes.  I even try to comment once in awhile.  But after an hour or two of that, it dawns on me I haven’t written anything in my own blog.  So I click the “Write” button and start to dash something off.

But then I have to deal with Bloggers Guilt.  That’s the feeling of guilt you get when you’re writing in your own blog and realizing that dozens of posts by fellow bloggers are slowly scrolling down into oblivion in your “Followed Sites” stream.   There’s no keeping up.

So I read and like and…

Following/Followers

This year I’ve taken a much more active approach on my blog and I’ve gained some new followers because of it.  Yay!

With new followers, I’ve followed back a lot of new bloggers.  This has been so fun!  I’ve made some new friends and have added to my “favorites”.  I’ve also discovered a lot of new writing, etc.  So cool!  Now, I have a lot more coming into my Reader Feed to keep up with!  It’s a challenge, but I’m enjoying it!

Tell me, do any of you fellow bloggers know how I can find out how many bloggers I follow?  I don’t have any idea.  It would be nice if I could see a list somewhere.  Please let me know if you know.  Thanks!

What a Blabber Mouth!

WordPress tells me that I have 200 Posts!  I had no idea.  Who knew I had so much to say!  I consider myself a pretty quiet person.  What a Blabber Mouth I am!  🙂

I enjoy my time on WordPress and have made some good connections and what I consider friendships.  I enjoy checking in on my Favorite Bloggers to see how they are doing.

I’ve been doing my best (although it seems incredibly slow, I am making progress) to spend more time on my WIP novel.  So I don’t get here as often as I used to.  I know that I miss a lot as I scroll through the Reader.

So if you wonder why you haven’t seen the Likes or Comments from me that you used to, that’s why.  Please know that I’m still here.   I’m a little further in the background.  But I’m still here, cheering you on!

THANK YOU to all of you that follow me.  I’m a little overwhelmed and extremely flattered that you would bother to look in on me and my life.
