Friday Favorites-Beckie’s Mental Mess

Welcome to another Friday Favorite! Each Friday, I will tell you a bit about a favorite blog/blogger of mine and why I like them.  Today I want to tell you about Beckie over at Beckie’s Mental Mess.

I just love Beckie and her blog.  I’ve been following her for some time now and thoroughly enjoy her posts!  First of all, Beckie is a sweetheart, someone I would love to get to know in person.  She’s funny and not afraid to poke a little fun at herself.

I think that the reason Beckie and I connected to begin with is because of her stand on Mental Health Awareness.  Beckie is a huge advocate and posts regularly on the subject.  Beckie does a regular piece that she calls “Working On Us“.  You can find a lovely example of the type of posts these are HERE.

Beckie also does a Monday Pet Peeve that is often hilarious as she pokes fun at herself and little things that annoy.  HERE’S an example.

Beckie participates in a number of prompts posted by other bloggers on WordPress.  She does the Weekly Smile from Trent’s blog, she does quite a few of A Guy Called Bloke’s prompts, like THIS ONE , which I love and quite a few others.

Beckie is a talented lady.  You never know what you will find on her blog.  From short stories to poetry, to pieces about her life.  THIS is an example of a Gorgeous poem that she wrote recently.  A girl after my own heart, writing about writing!

I could go on and on, because Beckies Blog is so diverse in its content.  Go visit, today!  You’ll be glad that you did!

Favorites Friday-Walt’s Writings

Welcome to Friday Favorites! Each Friday, I will share with you a little about one of my favorite blogs/blogger.  This week I would like to tell you about Walt Page.

Walt’s blog, is filled with beautiful poetry and other writings that will be sure to melt your heart and tug at your heartstrings.

Walt is married to (if you read the way he writes about her) the love of his life.   His poetry is filled with expressions of his love for his wife and the life they have made for each other.  THIS is an example of such beauty.

Walt is a bit of a hippy (I say that with love, Walt) and was a drummer in a rock band at one time.

Walt now lives in the country with his beloved wife, their dogs, horses and a quiet country life that he treasures.  Some of his writings include these loves.

Be sure to spend some time on Walt’s Blog, browsing through his posts.  You’ll be glad that you did and glad to connect with Walt.  He’s a treasure.

Playing Favorites Friday-Minnesota Prairie Roots

Welcome to the 2nd installment of my Friday Favorites!  This is where I share with you some information about a Favorite Blog that I follow.  I have many many favorites.  Today’s favorite is Minnesota Prairie Roots

If you’ve not discovered Audrey’s amazing blog, you’re missing out!!  Minnesota Prairie Roots is a collection of observations of rural life done by not only in word, but also by Audrey’s beautiful photography.  She explores the back roads and the off-the-beaten-track spots in Southern Minnesota.

The landscape in Audrey’s “back yard” can vary from desolate to picturesque through her sharp eye and camera lens.  She speaks eloquently of the sometimes overlooked simple pleasures of small town life. She may write about a colorful flea market or a day on the road to her favorite hamburger joint.  Regardless, you will love being along for the ride!  Her posts are full of a richness you can feel.

THIS will give a taste of Audrey’s Beautiful photography and her beloved Minnesota that she writes about.

I love Audrey’s blog for many reasons.  One reason is because of her stand against Domestic Abuse.  She’s writes articles regularly on the subject.  One such post on the subject can be seen HERE.

Audrey has always been kind, encouraging and greatly supportive to me since I connected with her on WordPress.  She’s a person I proudly consider a friend.

So be sure to visit Minnesota Prairie Roots today and show Audrey some love.  Browse through her posts and amazing photography.  You’ll be glad you did!

I Write For Me

This blog has gone through a lot of transformations over the last 5+ years. Although I’m not setting any records, my following has continued to grow.  I am grateful and still a bit in awe that anyone would want to hear what I have to say!

I’ve grown personally, and as a writer over these years.  Along the way, I’ve had some real stinkers for posts. I look back on some of these and cringe.  But you, my fellow bloggers and others, have hung in there through the good and the bad.  You’ve allowed me to subject you to whatever ramblings I find important at the time.  🙂   For this, I am grateful.

I’ve made some wonderful friends and connections on WordPress.  People that hopefully, will be life-long friends.  This community has given me a connection to the world that I never knew I was lacking.  My life is richer and better for it.

We all write for different reasons.  The above are some of those reasons.   There are other reasons as well.  I won’t bore you with the laundry list of reasons I write (expression, creativity, etc. etc.).  The real reason I write is for ME.

In many instances, my writing has been healing.  We all have struggles and being able to express myself as I go through those struggles has kept me coming back again and again.

As I approach my 2,000th follower (blows my mind), I want to thank all of you who have endured the good and the cringe-worthy posts of mine.  With your kindness and grace have I been able to grow, learn, and express myself here.

I don’t know what the future hold for Penny Wilson Writes, but I do hope you will continue to join me on this journey.

❤ Penny

Doing Time :)

I received this notification Thursday morning from WordPress. Wow! I’ve actually been blogging closer to 7 years but deleted my original blog.  (long story)

During my time on WP, my blog has morphed from its original purpose.  At first it was just a place to express myself.  It still is.  But it’s also so much more.

I don’t have a theme to my blog and that worried me for some time.  There are cooking blogs and fashion blogs.  There are photography blogs and writing blogs.  There are blogs about poetry and blogs about fiction.  What is my blog about?  When I figure that out, I’ll be sure to let you know.

WP gives me a creative outlet.  I write poetry and the occasional flash fiction.  I try not to complain too much, but when I’m at a low point, I know that this is one place I can come to and express myself and not be judged.

I write about things that are important to me.  Like the stigma surrounding Mental Health, Depression and Suicide Prevention.  I like to think that in some small way, my words make a difference.

I write about the highs and lows in my life; my accomplishments and my failures.  All the while, I’ve been blessed with a supportive and encouraging audience here.  I’ve made many friends.  It’s a good chance that I will never meet any of them away from my computer screen.  But they are no less precious to me for this fact.

So, WordPress is much more than a blog.  Family is part of my life.  Writing is part of my life.  Friendship is part of my life.

WordPress is a big part of my life.

Thank you for joining me on this journey! ❤ Penny

The Power of the Pen/Writing To Heal

We all write for different reasons.  There are as many different reasons to write as there are writers.  I’ve been writing off & on my whole life.  But I didn’t give it any real merit or take it seriously until a few years ago.  Now, writing is a huge part of my life.  One that I could not imagine being without.

My blog is a mixture of all kinds of things.  From my personal experiences to the daydreams of short stories or poetry.  It’s filled with my life.  My hopes, my dreams, and my tragedies, fears, and setbacks.

But more than anything, it’s filled with healing.

Through my writing, I’ve been able to put voice to the many experiences in my life.  This expression is an outlet.  A way to shout, scream, kick the dog (figuratively, of course. I would NEVER kick sweet Rocket), cry or sing, soar and rejoice.

It’s a way to heal.

But not just for me.  I hope that some of my writing has touched others.  I’ve written many times about depression and its devastation on people.  I’ve also written about family, loves and loss.

If my writing has touched you in some small way; if it has helped you heal in some small way, that makes me extremely happy.  If my writing made you smile on a day where it was tough to smile, then it’s all been worth it.  Because that’s what writers do.  They touch others’ lives through their writing.

As always, thank you for joining me on this journey.  ❤ Penny

Cranky, Crabby People

Ok, I’ve had a little backlash over a post I did on Internet Dating.  You can find it HERE.    Geeeze!  You just can’t say anything anymore without someone getting their panties in a bunch!  I KNOW that women are just as bad as men are out there.  I even state that in the first paragraph of the post.  If it looks like I took a female point of view on this, well damn!  I’M FEMALE!

I tried to make this post light-hearted and humorous.  If something like this gets you all shook up, you’ve got bigger problems than just finding a date!

If you leave me nasty comments, you are wasting your time because they will not be seen.  They will be swiftly deleted!

Happy Wednesday My Friends!  🙂  Penny

MORE Fun With Spam

This is the 2nd post I’ve done about the weird spam messages we get in our comments.  Below are some that I’ve received recently and me comments about them.  If we’re going to get spammed, we might as well have fun with it, right?  Enjoy!

It is also strongly recommended if most components and appliances
inside device are old and almost for the point of
being fully depreciated. When a package is created on the short sale, the words “contingent on bank approval” will have to be placed in the contract.
Business – Week just ran a cover story saying home prices won’t
rebound until 2012, and here it is starting a true estate column.
Equate hsa home warranty yelp Plans – 5 Things To Comparison(This was a comment left about a little piece i wrote on Photographs and memories. Home prices to rebound in 2012? Great news!)

Maintaining a home has a considerable time and hard work, it’s a good idea to
acquire a strategy when you have a lively schedule
or can be a first time home buyer who may have no experience maintaining a home.
Based in California, the corporation has expanded to encompass
many states throughout the U. If the cost in the warranty cost less compared to tariff
of repairs, then it’s far better to take one.
On that point Are Pros and Cons to Purchasing(This was also a comment left on the piece about photographs and memories. Does anyone know where the U is?)

hi!,I love your writing very much! proportion we keep in touch more approximately your article on AOL? I require an expert in this space to resolve my problem. Maybe that is you! Taking a look forward to peer you. (This was in response to a little Meet & Greet that I did.  It also included a link to Cialis of some sort.  An article on AOL? They did say they looked forward to “peer” me.  ??)

Friends I’ve Never Met

I’ve been blogging off and on now for 6 plus years.  In that time, I’ve seen bloggers come and go.  I’ve done the same thing.  There has been times when my blog went cold for months and at other times I’ve written every day.

If you spend much time on WordPress, you get to know a person’s writing style.  There are bloggers I seek out, if I don’t happen to see them in my Reader Feed, because I especially enjoy their blog.
