Opening Chapter

I’ve not allowed anyone other than a few very close family & friends to see what I’ve been working on with this novel.  But I would Really appreciate any feedback, good, bad or otherwise, that you could give me.  Is it enough to hook the reader?  Below is part of the opening chapter of my novel.

********************************************************************************

Sarah’s first thought was “Did I nap that long?”  It was almost dark.  Then the pain hit.  It was an excruciating, blinding, pain in the back of her head.  She reached up to put her hand on the back of her head.  It felt wet and sticky there.

D – Dormant

This is my version of the A to Z challenge.

D

Dormant

Meaning: Inactive but capable of becoming active

Dormant.  Boy does that ever describe me the last couple of months!  I’ve basically written Nothing since December.  Shame, shame.

That’s why I decided to give myself this challenge.  It is at least a way for me to write SOMETHING each day.  Maybe it will help me get back into the groove.

Another D word.  Have I just been too Distracted?  I’m not sure.

Those of us that write have all experienced this at one time or another:  I sit down with my faithful little laptop and stare at the blank page in front of me.  Nothing comes.

Somehow, I think that if I stare at that blank page long enough, like magic, something will pop into my head.  Lately, that hasn’t happened.

In the past, I would hear a line in a song, or something someone said and that was all I needed!   My mind was off and racing to fill up the white space on the page.  What the hell happened?  I’ve been stuck before, but not for this long!

Another D word.  Discovery.  Tomorrow I take off on my little adventure.  I’m going someplace I’ve never been before.  Just me.  All by myself.

I’m excited about this.  I look forward to seeing a new path of roadway and new scenery.

I’m trying very hard to Be Present.  “Enjoy the moments” is a phase that a friend of mine uses quite often.  Simple, but powerful.  It reminds me to stay focused on today, now, the present.  Tomorrow will take care of itself.

All we really have is the Now.  Tomorrow is never promised.  Yesterday is gone.

Well, looking back at what I’ve written here today… Wow.  I’ve really rambled today!  I guess this has been a good exercise for me.   Letting my mind just, go.  Writing it all down as I go.   Is it Good writing?  No.  But it’s writing and that’s the point.

The Adventure of Moving With Pets

Moving can be quite the adventure.  It can either be a good experience or a bad one.

My pets seem to have mixed reviews about their new space.  My little dog, Rocket, is fine with it.  He’s enjoying all the new smells to investigate and a little yard that is all his to pee and poop in!  He is just happy to be there.

Rocket

Rocket has a joyous attitude about everything in life.  He is just a very happy little guy.  There isn’t a day that goes by that he doesn’t make me smile.

My cat, Otis, has a totally different attitude about the whole thing.  He stayed hidden during most of the first 2 days.  I had him snuggle up in bed with me, but he would wander off into another room and start yowling and hollering!  Maybe he felt lost.  I don’t know.

 Otis 2

Everything around these animals is new.  After the movers left, then the Charter guy showed up to hook up my internet.  After he left the guys delivered my washer & dryer.

So not only is my kitty in a new place but there are strangers here too!  A very frightening experience!

Otis’ litter box is in a new place.  His food has been moved.  The living room is twice the size of the last one, etc., etc.

Otis is an indoor kitty.  So his world is very small and I have just messed with EVERYTHING in his world!

With Otis hollering the 3 of us didn’t get a lot of sleep the first couple of nights in the new place.

The first thing I had to find was the dog and cat food and of course their treats!  The fact that I cannot function without coffee had to take a back seat to the pets’ needs.  So after the “kids” were settled in, THEN I could look for my coffee pot, filters and coffee.

The adventure continues….. Maybe tonight I’ll finally find the coffee cups!
