You’ve Got to Break a Few Eggs…

There is the old saying: “you have to break a few eggs in order to make an omelet”.   Meaning, sometimes you have to make a mess.  My latest home improvement project did indeed cause me to “break a few eggs”.

The photos above are ‘before’ photos of my kitchen.  I did not like the dark cabinets and like all the other rooms in the house, the walls needed painting.  Being the thrifty girl that I am, I decided that I would repaint the cabinets.  I had no idea just how much work it would be.

I had to remove all of the drawers and doors from the cabinets to paint them.  I’m glad that I have a large dining room to work in!  Above is the mess I had created in my dining room.

I also had to take everything off the counters in order to paint.  Canisters, coffee pot, microwave, spices, etc. etc. ending up joining the mess in my dining room.

The cupboards above the stove were mounted so high on the wall they were just about unusable.  Even the lowest shelf was too high to be of any use. (and I’m 5’7″!) All I kept in those cupboards were things that I rarely used.  Having a place for common kitchen items, such as spices, etc. just didn’t have a home.

With the help of my Dear Brother, we moved that cabinet down 9 inches!  We matched the height of the top of the other cabinets in the kitchen.  Why this one was mounted so high was a mystery.  The photos above do not do this difficult task justice.  That 9 inch difference was a huge improvement in the useability of that cabinet.

Another change that was a must to me, was to change the ceiling light/fan.  The huge, ugly fan was totally out of place.  I replaced it with a farmhouse-look light fixture.  Above are before and after photos.

In my next post, I will share with you more of what was involved in this project.

Thank you for joining me on this journey. Penny ❤
