My Writing Buddy

Here we are in the month of May of 2021 already!  It goes so fast, doesn’t it?

I participated in the NaPoWriMo (National Poetry Writer’s Month) last month.  About half way through the month, I was wondering if my decision to participate was a good one or not!  I did struggle making my ‘deadline’ on several occasions, but managed to pull something out of the ‘ole grey matter just in time.

One thing that helped tremendously was that I found myself a writing buddy.  An “Accountability Buddy”, if you will.  Chuck over at The Reluctant Poet agreed to this.  This was great!  I knew I needed someone to poke me and encourage me to write Every Day! Chuck has become a Dear Friend and we write back & forth quite often.  So it was pretty easy to fall into a routine where I would send him a sneak peek of what was going to post the next day and he would share with me what he had written as well.  We bounced ideas off of each other and shared Writing Prompts that we found to be worthwhile.  We even collaborated on one poem that we jointly put together.  You can see that one HERE.

I’m really glad that I participated.  It got me back into my writing groove, which has been needing a boost lately and this is just what I needed.

Another plus to participating was that I discovered a few new bloggers along the way that were also joining in on the NaPoWriMo challenge.  So I have made new friends and have wonderful new posts to look forward to reading!

This is a lesson I will try to remember the next time I find myself in a writing slump.  I will find myself a writing buddy!  The WordPress Community has been so amazing to me, I’m sure I won’t have any trouble finding someone!  Right?

Right?  🙂

      1. Oh, I definitely didn’t make it through NaNo either–no badge for me!–but it did help to light a little fire under me, knowing some people were writing first drafts in just a month. Amazing, really! However, I’ve found that just isn’t how I write. I’m slow and methodical, rather than writing fast and filling in a shell, later. Well done on all your poetry! (Something I want to attempt at some point in the future.)

  1. Absolutely right! I participated in the NaPoWriMo too, I must say, it was a wonderful time writing all that poetry. It really forces you out of that comfort zone.
