Premature Murder

I am being dragged

My feet splayed out behind me
scuffing the tips of my boots

A small cloud of dust
encompasses me
as I hold on
for all I am worth

There are days when I have control
of the thing
and days
like today
when I do not

I knew its course

It had been targeting my antagonist
for some time

I wanted him dead too

But not now

Not yet

To my amazement
it struck
without hesitation

Dragging me
through the blood and the gore
I had no choice
but to become part
of the appalling onslaught

The cursor savored
the joy
within the protagonist
as it ends the life of
the villain

The cursor has won

Today

I’m breathless
my pulse is pounding

I finally release my hold
on the cursor

My hands shake
as I add the final period

End of scene
