I Never Told You

You never knew that your smile was the sunlight in my world.  I would listen to your breathing while watching your chest rise and fall.  A miracle before my eyes.  To be entrusted with your life, a creature so small and helpless, was terrifying.  Perfection, delivered into my hands.  Who was I to shape your future?  How could I possibly do the right thing, say the right thing?  Just living day to day was enough of a battle.  Not worthy.  Not enough.  Not me.

My wish, more than anything, is that you can look back on your life and smile.
