30 Day Challenge-What I Learned

I put myself on a 30 day challenge to do a Post A Day, for 30 days.  I succeeded!  THIS is post #30.  I’m proud of sticking with it and accomplishing it.  I’ve learned a few things along the way of my little challenge and thought that I would share what I’ve learned with you.

My reason for putting myself on this 30 day challenge was because I felt that I needed a kick start for inspiration with my writing.  I was at a point where I was struggling to write.  In the past if I push myself more to write, then the juices start flowing and I’m Writing!

I learned that I need more structure, or more discipline, if you will, in my writing routine.  I absolutely need to set aside some time every day to write.  The physical act of opening up my laptop and sitting there looking at the screen does a lot.

I found that I was doing more thinking about what I wanted to write.  During the day, I would think “I’ve got to get started on an idea for tomorrow’s post”.  Once the wheels started turning in that direction, I started looking at simple words or phrases as potential writing material.

This experience also pushed me to be more creative in pursuing a writing inspiration.  I spent more time looking for prompts as potential writing material.

Be accountable.  Tell the world.  I posted on WordPress that I was going to do this 30 day challenge.  So how could I blow it off?  It’s easy to make excuses when you are not accountable for something.  The “I’ll do it later” or “I’ll do it tomorrow” is an easy habit to get into.  Believe me.  I know.

I learned that there is a much broader assortment of things that I can blog about if I just open my mind up to being flexible.

I turn the TV off right after dinner, set my cell phone aside and focus on what I’m doing.  Having fewer distractions has helped considerably!  Having the TV on in the background just pulled me away from the keyboard.  I’ve learned to turn on music instead.

I’m reading more.  Reading has been a life-long pleasure.  I’ve allowed other things in my life to interfere with that simple pleasure.  Not now.

What I managed to write during this 30 day period are not all winners, for sure.  But I did write quite a variety of things.  What I’ve written is this:

Stories-5

Point of View-5

Poetry-10

Rocket helped-2

Misc.-8

Prose-1

Hmmm, including today, that makes 32!  Well, I guess I can’t count the 2 that Rocket wrote.   🙂

I’m glad I did this challenge and it feels good that I accomplished it.  But I’m sure glad it’s over!  I may take a day or so off now!  Thanks for reading and thanks for all of the amazing support that I receive here!  ❤ ❤ ❤  You guys are awesome!

  1. Getting others to hold you accountable is a great way to achieve goals! When I set a deadline for myself to publish my book I scheduled a book launch party so I had no choice but finish! 😁

  2. Congratulations, Penny. I am writing up a storm at the moment but that is because I am obsessed with my new book and getting it finished. I am enjoying writing it so much I just can’t wait to get going with it.
