New Beginnings

With the approach of the  New Year, it makes me think about New Beginnings.  It seems that I’ve “started over” a thousand times in my life.

We moved around a lot when I was a kid growing up.  So I was constantly starting a new school, making new friends.  Starting over.

After I became an adult, I still moved around a lot.  I’ll give you the condensed version here.

I’ve been married *coughs, clears throat, shuffles feet* 3 times.  So with that in mind, I started over at least 3 times there.

I’ve lived in Texas, Arizona, Wisconsin, New Jersey, The Philippines and Oregon.  Those are just the STATES (and countries) I’ve lived in.  There have been too many different towns to remember.  Probably hundreds.

I’m *cough cough, clears throat* 60 years old, at the time of this writing.  In my 50’s, I quit my job, left 90% of my belongings behind and moved across the country with no prospect for the future.  Brave or stupid, at the time, I had no idea which.  But THAT new start was the best, yet scariest thing I’ve ever done.

Change is scary.  It’s normal to be afraid of change.  It’s our brain’s way of protecting us.

None of us like uncertainty in our lives.  But, don’t be afraid to start fresh.  This can be applied to many things in your life.  You don’t have to make earth-shattering changes.  Small changes can have huge impacts on your life.  Take it one small piece at a time, if you can’t deal with the big picture.

Each morning when we wake up, we are given the gift of a brand new day.  What we decide to do with those 24 glorious hours is up to us.  Do you want this new day to be different?  Is there a problem in your life that only you can remedy if you make a change?

Think of the New Year as a new start.   A New Beginning.

Happy New Year All!  May all your goals come to pass in the coming year!

  1. You have quite the story to tell I think penny it’s always interesting the more you read of somebody the more you learn about them and you start to put the pieces together …probably incorrectly ..but it’s always an interesting journey
