The Real Threat

Since I’ve taken my writing more seriously, I’ve started paying more attention to everything around me.  For instance, the writing on TV shows or movies has some wonderful lines, if you are looking for them.   I also pay more attention to song lyrics now.

The most fun I’ve discovered, happens in everyday conversation.  I was having a conversation with a man a couple of weeks ago and he was relaying an experience he had on a first date.  He said that the woman he was having lunch with criticized everything he ate or drank.  Red meat had too much cholesterol, the butter had fat.  The sweet tea would do him in for sure!  The potato had little nutritional value and the bread was pure poison!

I sympathized with him and asked what he did to resolve the situation.

He said that he looked at her and said, “You know, we have a lot to worry about in this life.  But if I looked at things the way you do, I wouldn’t need to worry about Terrorism, Global Warming or neo-Nazis.”

At this he paused  and with a straight face he looked me right in the eye.  He leaned forward just a little and whispered, “The real threat to modern civilization is Gluten!”

  1. Its been true for such a long time hasn’t it that what we eat is our biggest threat to our survival. You can become super anal about it all but I think we have to remember to live and enjoy life as best we can. Happy New Year Penny.
