I haven’t posted much here lately.  So I thought I would give you an update.

I’m rereading Stephen King’s On Writing.  I read it years ago but didn’t remember much about it.  I’ve always been a fan of Stephen King and all I could remember about the book was that I had liked it.

If you are a writer and have not read this book, or if you’ve ever thought about writing, this is a book you should read.  Over the years, I’ve seen many references to it.  The book was written in the year 2000, but is still amazingly relevant.

Even if you don’t write, but enjoy Stephen King’s writing, it’s a book you will enjoy.  The book gives you a very personal glimpse into this man’s life in addition to his wisdom about writing.

The other thing I’m doing is concentrating on my WIP.  I’m 6 chapters in.  This is after I decided I would do a complete rewrite of my novel.  You can read about that decision here.

6 chapters may not seem like much, but I feel good about the way the story is progressing.  I keep reminding myself that “If it were easy, everybody would do it”.  🙂

I’m trying to live a better “writer’s life”.  I’m watching Very Little TV now.  Right after dinner, I deliberately turn off the TV and read for a while every night.  I’ve also been writing Every Day! (yay me!)

I took some time off the week of Thanksgiving to start my rewrite and I’m glad that I did.  It’s probably the most relaxing time off I’ve had in years.  I haven’t bothered to put up a Christmas tree in 4 years.  With the extra time off, I had the energy to put one up this year!  While not the prettiest tree I’ve ever done, I’m pleased with it.  That’s the photo above.

In addition to the Christmas decorations, I’ve wrapped and mailed off all the gifts that need to be mailed this year.  I’m WAY ahead of my usual schedule on this!

My shadow, my best friend Rocket, see the next Adorable picture, was Very glad to have me home. 🙂

I have NOT had as much time to spend here browsing through my favorite bloggers’ posts.  😦  I don’t know how some of you do it!  I work full time.  I try to read every day and write every day.

The lure of Social Media is always there.  I recently joined Instagram.  (Why is there no Instagram Share button on WordPress?)  But I am thinking that I really don’t have the time to keep up with it.  I barely have time to look at Twitter once in a while!

What’s your secret?  How do you get it all done?

  1. I LOVED King’s ON WRITING. And I’m not super big on craft books. Most of the time I feel like I should just be writing, not thinking up new–even if they’re smart–ways of putting off writing. That said, I don’t have a smart phone (well, it could be smart, but I don’t have a data plan), so I can’t waste time on my phone; I also watch very little TV. And I try to enjoy some silence while in the car or on walks. I find even thought-productive radio programs and podcasts can get in the way of me producing something creative, myself. Here’s to getting something written at the most frenzied time of the year! Good luck!

  2. I read blogs when I am on the toilet mainly 😅
I very much relate to what you’re saying. It’s difficult when having a fulltime job. But instead of reading the news paper, I read blogs. Or in bath. Or in bed. Or on the toilet really!

  3. I don’t watch TV, but social media can be a big time killer. I hate Twitter, spend very little time on Facebook and less than 5 minutes a day on Instagram, but WP eats a ton of time!

Glad you are getting work done on your WIP. Mine has been sitting idle for about three weeks. I need to get back into it! Actually, I finished the second draft, but I have a ton of stuff I realize I need to change. I think it will be at least a half a dozen minor revisions and three more major drafts before it is done.
