After much thought, I’ve decided that my WIP needs a complete rewrite. This is a good thing! I’ve been languishing for months with this nagging feeling. I knew why, but I didn’t know how to fix it. Now I do!
At the climax of my story, I’ve got something good, really good, I know that.
But everything else is shit.
The main character’s back story is weak. She’s uninteresting. The villain has the same problem. The flow of the story is predictable.
Boring and predictable does not sell books. Does the phase “beating a dead horse” mean anything to you? That’s how I’ve felt. I would pluck away at the keyboard, but my heart wasn’t in it. I knew that what I was writing was NOT what I wanted this story to be!
I knew the problems with the story, but I didn’t know how to fix it. Now I do!!
To make this story what it really deserves to be, it will mean rewriting everything, except for the culmination and climax, which is the real jewel here. But that’s ok! I’m actually excited about this. This will mean that my main character can now be a strong, vibrant person. My villain has already had a short story posted about him (here!) so his background will be dark and deliciously interesting. (I just couldn’t help myself, giving you a peek)
I’m taking some time off from work next week to write. I have VOWED that I will spend hours upon hours at the keyboard! 🙂 So my New WIP will be born!
Wish me luck and strong keyboarding fingers my friends!
