** I have been having a hell of a time writing anything worth posting lately! The last couple of weeks, I’ve wanted to participate in Sue’s #Write Photo challenge, but nothing comes. 😦 I forced myself to sit down at the keyboard and stare at the dammed white page until something came. It is a complete surprise what came of this. See below. I hope you enjoy.
Safe Haven–
The page before me glares back. The cursor’s unwavering blink is about to drive me to madness. I hear the clock tick and my own heartbeat between my ears. All else has fallen away.
The crisp white of the page is blinding; the starkness, consuming. I avert my gaze and focus on the keys. The keys. They hold the answers. My fingers hover above them.
The need. The hunger to push the cursor pulls me to this chair.
Then a spark. Small, but its flicker shows the way. My fingers find pathways, traveling among the small black buttons, faster and faster as the spark takes hold. The spark is now a roaring flame. The flame has taken me and all else is forgotten.
I am no longer pushing the cursor, but am pulled by it. I’ve fallen through that glaring white and look back from the other side.
The land around me is that of my own making. I look back at the woman hunched over the keyboard. She looks insane. Her look is a mixture of torture and ecstasy.
Turning from her, I see a world of beauty and mystery, of bliss and horror. This is the world of my serenity, my safe haven.
I sit to watch the sunset, breathing deeply the sweet night air. I’m at peace. I’m safe in my haven. My world.

Wonderfully descriptive and reminiscent of many of my own writing moments. You said it better than I ever could though…

The writer observes herself and then writes. Not sure I’d have the courage to do this. I write to wander away on journeys to other times and places, not to look at myself from a bird’s eye view. When all else fails, seize what you have at hand and write.

I agree. And having the courage to look back… I’m sort of experiencing that now. They say to “write what frightens you”. Thanks for stopping by James!

I am also not always inspired by a specific prompt, Penny. You did a good job on this though. I have challenged you to join in the 7 day B&W photograph challenge if you want to. You can read about it here: https://robbiesinspiration.wordpress.com/2017/11/17/7-days-of-sir-chocolate-in-bw-day-3/
