Another Name Change?

When I first started my blog, I called it “Penny Lane’s Thoughts“, using the name Penny Lane as a playful nod to the Beatles.

Since then, I’m taking my writing more seriously.   So I changed the name of my blog to “Penny Lane Writes“.

As an author, I will be using my real name, Penny Wilson.  I worry that if people look for me, they will not find me with the Penny Lane name.

As much as I adore the name Penny Lane, It’s not who I am.  I’m Penny Wilson.  I am thinking about making another name change to my blog and calling it “The Musings of Penny Wilson” or some such thing.  I haven’t decided on a name for sure yet.

I’ve even secured the pennywilsonwrites .com just in case.

Do you think another change will just confuse people?  Thoughts?

  1. I think it’s a wonderful idea to put your real name out there. It won’t be long before people know of the switch. Even if they don’t see this email, they will see your comments in other posts with your picture and put two and two together. No matter what, if you are looking to promote your writing with your real name, this is a move you pretty much have to do. Hey! I don’t know if you are interested, but if you wanted to write a humorous post for Guest in Jest with the explanation of the name change, I’d be happy to run it on my blog and that would put the word out to about 350 followers.

    • Hi Linda. Thank you! That is so sweet of you. I’ve seen your “guest in jest” posts, but always hesitated because it’s rare that I write about something funny. But you’ve inspired me! 🙂 I’ve got something in mind now, so I’ll get back to you. Thanks, as always, for checking in on me!
BTW, I saw your Starbucks Trail post. I had no idea you had cancer! I understand that you’re clear now. I’ll say prayers, hoping you stay that way! 🙂
      Thanks again Linda!

      • Thanks, honey! Yeah, it’s been a little stressful here over the last three years. Cancer and Epilepsy diagnosed for me and cancer for my husband. We are both clear so far. We had the “good” cancers! Haha! 🤗

  2. I did the same at the start. I was The Written Word with no mention of my name, but changed to Jessica Bakkers after about a month. People adapt.

  5. You may lose a few, but posts like this should help. I had another blogger change her name and she put a link on her site which helped with the switch.

As long as you make it clear with posts like this one, it shouldn’t be an issue. A few times I’ve had people I follow drop the old blog and start a new one without any warning. Not a continuation, but a total restart. That is difficult to follow. But if they had continued to post on the old one with links to the new it would have been much easier.
